![]() The cordless chainsaws we tested weigh anywhere from 11 to about 14 pounds. ![]() A fueled 50-cc gas-engine saw, with an 18-inch bar, weighs 11 to 12 pounds. (You still need hearing protection for both, though.) As for weight, cordless electric chainsaws are equal to or a couple of pounds heavier than their gas-engine equivalents. Gas-engine chainsaws are loud-about 105 decibels a cordless chainsaw is roughly equal to a corded electric circular saw, at about 100 decibels. There are many differences between a gas-engine chainsaw and an electric chainsaw powered by a battery and motor. ![]() The Best Pruning Saws for Keeping Your Trees Tidy. The 2022 Popular Mechanics Yard & Garden Awards.Chainsaws Are Better When Powered by Batteries. And the more frequent the sessions, the more electric chainsaw you need to buy. The longer your cutting session, the more wood you expect to cut. A homeowner-duty saw will make 20 to 30 cuts through the same log. Other electric chainsaws that we would classify as professional, but are not as effective as our top performers, produce 40 or 50 cuts. Our top-tier professional saws can make more than 100 cuts (the best will do more than twice that amount) through a 6-inch-diameter hardwood log. However, an inexpensive electric chainsaw is not going to churn through a pickup truck’s worth of firewood in a morning. A mid-duty model is likely to cost about $250, and an inexpensive one suitable to handle the occasional downed tree limb is going to run you roughly $150 to $200. Pro-duty electric saws powered by a battery are expensive, costing in the range of $300 to $400 on average with the most heavy-duty models costing two to three times that amount. Take a look below at quick info of the best chainsaws from our testing. What’s more, professional-level tools compare very favorably with gas-engine saws when it comes to power. And chances are you already own a string trimmer or other cordless tool that uses a battery that can power the chainsaw. But for cleaning up fallen limbs, landscape maintenance, and tree pruning, battery chainsaws are more than up to the job. There’s no substitute for the hard-charging torque of a properly tuned and well-maintained gas-powered saw, particularly for big woodcutting jobs. Skip any aspect of that protocol and you have a finicky piece of power equipment that will likely fail you when you need it most. If you do that, you’ll be rewarded with a saw that starts easily and runs reliably. And you need to run a gas-engine chainsaw at least several times a year and keep it tuned with a fresh spark plug and air filter. You have to store one of those with ethanol-free, two-cycle engine mix or by mixing a preservative with its fuel. This simplicity stands in direct contrast to the exacting maintenance protocol required for gas-engine chainsaws. So long as you keep its chain sharp and bar oil in the reservoir, you’ll make quick work of dicing up that wood. Click in a charged battery and get to work. The fastest and easiest way to clean up a tree or limb brought down by a fierce autumn or winter storm is by using a battery-powered chainsaw. We had literally booked it two nights before and there were options for a regular or VIP package. I can still taste it in my memories over a year later.ĭesserts were just $2 for a lemon meringue pie or a pecan pie but given how much I had broken the three bite rule and had a complete makeout session in public with a biscuit then I felt that I had to flee to the comfort of our hotel.ĭon't you just love it when a hotel is unexpectedly good? And conversely how disappointing is it when you expect a hotel to be great but it isn't? Well thankfully it was the former for our hotel suites at The Remington. The crumbly top broke apart and the whole thing was as light as air. The biscuit was so light and the bottom had a coating of some sort of oil or lard that soaked in without making it greasy. Rules are of course meant to be broken and when they taste this good they definitely are. The biscuit here is stuff of legend and allow me to admit that it was utterly delightful and I found myself forgetting all three bite rules. Biscuits in America are similar to scones in Australia but they are eaten differently. The item that has me the most excited however is the biscuit. The fried okra is good although we should have perhaps ordered some ranch sauce to go with it. The chicken is well seasoned, fresh and crunchy. ![]() The chicken comes out freshly made and there's a rib rather than a breast and a wing. It comes in brown paper bags taped shut with masking tape. There are specials on dark meat chicken but I prefer wings and Belinda the breast so we ask for those two cuts along with a couple of sides and a biscuit. Service is very friendly and helpful and we gawp at the endless combinations. I can do fine with the three bite rule for other fried items like fried fish or seafood but chicken? Well that's another matter altogether. I had been thinking about fried chicken for the last hour. We reach Mama's Fried Chicken around two and a half hours later. We watch as the bugs hit our windscreen and I look to my right and watch as buzzards hover on the side of the road looking for their own lunch of roadkill. "Op-el-ou-sas," I say aloud, the word rolling off my tongue with emphasis. We split the drive to Shreveport in two stopping in Opelousas for some fried chicken. ![]() We have left New Orleans and are on our way to Shreveport before reaching our final destination of Dallas, Texas. I've been trying to temper it with the three bite rule and regular gym workouts.īut then chicken ied chicken to be specific. It's not helped by the food that we've been eating. We're over three quarters of the way through our American road trip across the South with three days left on the road and I've developed a crazy appetite for fruit salad and garden salad. "I think I got too excited when I saw a fruit salad today" I turn to Belinda. ![]() Rest assured that you are buying the #1 premium quality product for your child. FAIR!Įven removing the travel porn aspect of the movie, though, "Christmas in Vienna" is a pretty nice way to spent two hours. I don't know what the budget was for this movie, but you see it all on screen – and whatever they didn't spend on lavish decor and sets, they spent on delicious Austrian pastries and desserts. Even the hotel room Sarah Drew's character stays in is the nicest, most warmly decorated hotel room I've ever seen in my life. So bright! So shiny! So festive! I don't how much money the Austrian Tourism Department put into this film, but they got their money's worth, luxuriating in lavish Christmas displays across the city and gorgeously golden sets. From just the opening shots of the movie, I was warmed with Viennese wonder. ![]() Let's be honest: No offense to Sarah Drew and Brennan Elliott, but the true star of "Christmas in Vienna" is its titular locale: Vienna. First of all, how many crimes require extensive crossword knowledge? But second, and most important: Wait, they allow MURDERS on that channel!? This is very exciting for my "The Crochet Killings" spec script. He also stars alongside Your Hallmark Highness Lacey Chabert in a series of Hallmark Movies & Mysteries flicks called "Crossword Mysteries," about a crossword expert who helps solve murders and crimes. She's falling in love with Brennan Elliott, a Hallmark regular and former Chucky murder victim. She didn't even come close to filling out her entire "Grey's Anatomy" death punch card and earning herself a free coffee! So, in other words, she was a character on "Grey's Anatomy." And most impressively, she got to leave the show alive! Sure, she almost died about four times on the show between a hospital shooting, a stint in the army, a car crash and hypothermia, but honestly that's actually below average for a character on that show. April Kepner on "Grey's Anatomy," where she started off as one of the cast's more annoying characters before developing into a very intriguing, nuanced and relatably human member of the Seattle Grace Hospital staff. If you recognize the actress, by the way, it's probably from Drew's nine-year run as Dr. Well, congratulations on having a great agent, Sarah Drew. Lacey Chabert just got to Rome last holiday season after working her way to practically president of the Hallmark Channel status, but Sarah Drew got to Vienna on her first go-around? She should've had to make 47 movies in a Vancouver backlot before she started earning those Hallmark frequent flyer miles. wait, she gets to go to Vienna on her first Hallmark movie? That seems unfair you gotta earn those travel rights. TIME TO STEP UP YOUR GAME, RICK STEVES!Įveryone welcome Sarah Drew to the world of Hallmark movies. ![]() ![]() hold on a second, I LIKE THIS HALLMARK MOVIE TOO?! What's going on here?! This series is called Matt's Hallmark Holiday Hell, not Matt's Hallmark Holiday Haven! You're ruining my brand, Hallmark, with these increasingly above-competent and charming Christmas movies – like "Christmas in Vienna," which happens to succeed as both a Hallmark movie and as some of the best travel porn I've seen in a long time. "Christmas in Vienna"Īlright, so the first Hallmark movie of the year went surprisingly well, but now let's get back into the snark and sassiness that I'm . These are the never-ending chronicles of Matt's Hallmark Holiday Hell. Three years later, having learned absolutely nothing, he made the mistake all over again. It was a decision he would come to immediately regret, as he was quickly punished assigned to watch a new Hallmark movie a week during the holiday season and write about his discoveries and loss of dignity. 9, 2017, during an OnMilwaukee editorial meeting, culture editor Matt Mueller brought up the craze of Hallmark Christmas movies. |
